Rick Blaine(Humphrey Bogart), who owns a nightclub in Casablanca, Morocco, discovers his old flame Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) is in town with her husband, Victor Laszlo. Laszlo is a resistance leader from Czechoslovakia, and with Germans on his tail, Ilsa knows Rick can help them get out of the country - but will he?
“Casablanca” was nominated for eight Academy Awards, and won three: for Outstanding Motion Picture, for Best Director (Michael Curtiz), and for Best Actor (Humphrey Bogart). In 1989, the film was one of the first 25 films selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as being deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
