"From Photography to Sculpture": Four Italy-Themed Exhibitions at Narva Central Library.
Narva Central Library is currently hosting four Italy-themed exhibitions showcasing photography, painting, metal sculpture, ceramic sculpture, and a display of Italian books, postcards, and newspapers dating from 1887 to 1970.
"Salty Horizons" – Photography by Franca Chiono
One of the featured exhibitions is "Salty Horizons", a photographic series by Franca Chiono, an artist from Turin.
Franca Chiono's work combines painting, sculpture, and photography. The exhibition presents 14 photographic works captured along the Mediterranean coastlines and salt pans of Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Cyprus.
Her artistic vision focuses on expansive landscapes and the geometry of nature. Sparkling salt crystals, shimmering saltwater, brilliant white salt mounds, and the fascinating details hidden along these extraordinary landscapes create the impression of a place seemingly designed to be admired. Despite their exotic beauty, salt pans are also places of work and production. These beautiful yet thought-provoking landscapes evoke the feeling of an imagined, almost virtual world.
"Matter. Tension. Form" – Metal Sculptures by Massimo Ghiotti
The exhibition "Matter. Tension. Form" presents abstract metal sculptures by contemporary Italian artist Massimo Ghiotti.
Dedicated to themes of mythology, ideas, memory, and the human soul, the exhibition features a collection of large-scale abstract metal sculptures that invite visitors to explore these timeless concepts.
"From Christmas to Baptism" – Contemporary Ceramic Sculpture
The ceramic sculpture exhibition "From Christmas to Baptism" features works by eleven young Italian artists.
The exhibition showcases ceramics by Sandra Baruzzi, Brenno Pesci, Elena Sevi, Germana Rossi Ruffini, Giovanni Matano, Livio Girivetto Menzio, Guglielmo Marthyn, Maurizio Grandinetti, Gianni Picazzo, Christian Grandinetti, and Raffaele Mondazzi.
Through their works, the artists invite visitors to reflect on the timeless themes of faith, kindness, love, tolerance, and miracles.
"A Different Phenomenon" – Paintings by Tito Marchi
"A Different Phenomenon" is a series of paintings on wooden panels by contemporary Italian artist Tito Marchi.
The series consists of self-portraits in which the artist reinterprets icon-painting traditions from different historical periods. Painted on wooden panels and embellished with gold leaf, the works combine the techniques of traditional painting with a contemporary metaphysical approach.
The paintings explore questions of self-awareness, self-worth, and the search for life's meaning. Through these self-portraits, the artist reflects on accepting one's individuality while seeking an answer to the timeless question:
"Who am I?"
Italian Heritage Collection
The exhibition also includes a display of Italian books, postcards, and newspapers dating from 1887–1970, on loan from the Turin School and Children's Book Museum.
The exhibition will remain open until the end of August.
