“Capote” is a biographical film about American writer Truman Capote, following the events during the writing of his non-fiction book “In Cold Blood.” Philip Seymour Hoffman won several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Actor, for his critically acclaimed portrayal of the title role.
In 1959, Truman Capote, who wrote for The New Yorker, learns about the horrific and senseless murder of a family of four in Holcomb, Kansas. Inspired by the story material, Capote and his friend, Harper Lee (another great American author known for her classic novel “To Kill a Mockingbird,”) travel to the town to research for an article. However, as Capote digs deeper into the story, he is inspired to expand the project into what would be his greatest work, “In Cold Blood,” which redefined modern non-fiction.
